The Shields you see in the Chapel and Knights’ Hall were created in the early 1970’s by the same Scottish manufacturer. They are made of leather and are irreplaceable. In total, there are over 30 Shields. Those carrying a Green Cross as a central device are of a particular Jurisdiction, the remainder are personal to Confreres of standing at that time. Many nationalities are represented which makes it fitting that they are placed permanently in the Grand Commandery.

There follows a background to why Heraldic Arms and the Shields which bore them were originally devised. This is followed by examples of some of the Shields on display
